Overview
Black Rock Beach is a distinctive geological shoreline along the northern fringes of Leonard County. Unlike the smooth white sands found elsewhere in the state, this coastal margin is framed by dark limestone outcroppings and rocky tide pools that create dramatic spray when Atlantic swells break against the shore. The dramatic natural landscape attracts outdoor sightseers, photographers, and fishermen. From a gameplay perspective, the rocky terrain and natural promontories provide defensive high ground and secluded shoreline cover. The rocky shoreline limits conventional vehicle access, making on-foot traversal and small watercraft navigation the most effective ways to explore the area. In the real world, Black Rock Beach is inspired by Blowing Rocks Preserve on Jupiter Island, Florida. Renowned as the largest Anastasia limestone rock formation on the Atlantic coast, the real-world preserve is celebrated for geyser-like plumes of saltwater that burst through rock fissures during high tides.
